OBJECTIVE
Create a visual system that is consistent across 3 posters for an event, Elusive Echoes: Exploring Poetic Soundscapes. Viewer should be able to tell each poster belongs to the same series despite each poster being different. Utilize non-literal imagery to amplify the poster theme. Explore combining typographic and photographic elements with compositional techniques to result in a dynamic poster series.
RESEARCH

To completely understand the themes the poster series should communicate, written research was carried out. Exploring each artist's musical contributions, unique characteristics, messages in their work, and historical context was vital to capturing a feeling to evoke in the poster series. After researching, the biggest similarity between these artists was revealed to be the never-seen-before approach to the sounds that characterized their music.

A range of poster styles were explored for a mood board. Bold posters with experimental typography and interesting colors were included, as the musicians featured in Elusive Echoes: Exploring Poetic Soundscapes were experimental and bold artists themselves. This mood board inspired sketches.
SKETCHES

Sketches were rendered, drawing from the experimental typography and layout featured in the mood board. After analyzing sketches, musician names were deemed the most important piece of information. Digital iterations would feature a hierarchy of information that reflected this.

REFINEMENTS
Typography was experimented with to reflect the innovative, rebellious qualities held by each musician. The final poster series features the musician's name in a slanted, uppercase, bold typeface. The series title type, "Elusive Echoes: Exploring Poetic Soundscapes," was physically manipulated. This type was cut into individual letters and placed on a ripped piece of paper. The chosen typeface was American Typewriter for its rebellious and gritty feel. Abstracted photos of a stereo are shown in low opacity in the background. This nonliteral visual was intended to represent the interpretive nature of the artists' work: the poetic soundscapes they created.
